Registering your child for school is an exciting step for you and your family. Please read the details in full on this page and know we are here to support you if you have any questions.
Online Registration in 3 Easy Steps
1. Determine Your School Catchment
- Determining your catchment school is an easy and important step before you register
- Each home address within our District is associated with an elementary, middle and secondary school
- Visit the School Locator Tool and enter your residential address to find out which schools your child should attend
2. Gather Documentation that Confirms Your Child’s Age and Home Address
- Kindergarten age eligibility: the child you are registering is five years of age by December 31st of the school year. Your child’s eligibility is not based on their skillset, but is based on their age.
- Proof of citizenship: one of the following documents is required for your child:
- Birth Certificate
- Passport
- Immigration Canada document
- Certificate of Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card
- Proof of residential address: two different documents are required that provide proof of address

3. Complete the Online Form that is Most Relevant for You
Note: Newcomers to Canada (permanent residents, refugee claimants, and Ukrainian CUAET visa holders), please contact the Welcome Centre at 250-475-4157 or email welcomecentre@sd61.bc.ca to begin the registration process.
Note: Study/work permit holders, please visit our (choose funding eligible) to begin the registration process.

2025/2026 School Year Important Registration Dates
| January 13 – 17, 2025 | • Early French Immersion Registration Week (Kindergarten & Grade 1) |
| January 27 – 31, 2025 | • Kindergarten Registration & Kindergarten Transfer Week • Grade Six – Late French Immersion Registration Week |
| January 31, 2025 | • Deadline to submit Secondary Programs of Choice applications |
| February 10, 2025 | • Registration opens for new Grade 1-12 students |
| February 10 – 13, 2025 | • Kindergarten to Grade 12 Student Transfer Process (requests due by 3:30pm on Feb 13) |
| February 12, 2025 | • Last day for Secondary Schools to inform students about acceptance into Programs of Choice |
| On or before March 14, 2025 | • Notification of all transfer decisions will be communicated to families |
| May 15, 2025 | • District Orientation/ Student Transition Day |
